Experience
I have worked with students in Needham, Concord, Wellesley, Brookline, Newton, Belmont, Arlington, Lexington, Bedford, Sharon, Milton, Medfield, Weston, Wayland, Somerville, Cambridge, Watertown, and Boston, from schools like Needham High, Lexington High, Belmont High, Commonwealth School, Lexington Christian Academy, Southfield School, Tabor Academy, and Concord Carlisle (among others). I am a passionate teacher, and my students often comment that this passion and excitement for my subject makes them more interested, sometimes in spite of themselves. Since January 2009 I have tutored over 150 students, helping them to achieve their goals in all three AP History classes and both AP English classes, as well as on the Reading Comprehension and Writing sections of both the ACT and SAT. While most of my students have been in high school, I also have experience preparing middle schoolers for the SSAT/ISEE, and in basic English grammar and usage. Since the fall of 2010, I have edited over 300 college application essays, working both independently and “behind the scenes” for private educational consultants. In addition to working with my students in their homes or at local libraries, I also work with students over Skype and Google Hangouts. A lot of people are skeptical, and I was too, at first, but it really works! Two years ago, I formed a company, Shulman & Hill, LLC, with my close friend, Jeremiah Hill, an experienced English teacher who currently teaches in Newton. We employ two fantastic math and science tutors, enabling us to help students on the math and science sections of the SAT and ACT, as well as with their academic coursework in math, physics, biology, environmental science, and chemistry. You can read a variety of testimonials and learn more about us at our website, www.shulmanandhill.com.

Hobbies
While I have been known to geek out over new textbooks, and I find it hard to suppress my urge to share the importance of certain supreme court cases, the proper use of the subjunctive mood, and how to craft a tightly written essay or paper, I also find time to enjoy inventing new recipes and haunting my local farmers’ markets, attending live concerts and shows, and getting to the beach as often as I can.
